our history

Katherin_Liverpool_tours

Hi! I’m Kath, and I’m the founder of KR Tours. Here’s a little bit about how it all began.

I originally came to Liverpool to study, but the more time I spent here, the more interested I became in its history, culture and people. I began working for different tour companies and, over the years, gained experience while getting to know the city much better.

Later, I started working independently under the name KR Liverpool Tours. “KR” comes from my initials, Kath Ríos, as it was originally a small and very personal project.

After the pandemic, tourism slowly began to return, and the project started to grow. Friends and fellow guides who shared the same enthusiasm for Liverpool joined me. We decided to keep the original name, even though today KR Tours represents a whole team rather than just me.

We have shared some very special experiences along the way. We returned to work when the country reopened to tourism, following all the new safety measures. Some small habits have stayed with us ever since; our guides still carry hand sanitiser on every tour!

During Eurovision 2023, we also had the opportunity to do something meaningful. Together with journalist Maria Romanenko, we organised completely free tours for Ukrainian refugees and visitors, translating the tours from English into Ukrainian. There was no payment and no tips were expected; we simply wanted more people to enjoy Liverpool and feel welcome during such an important event.

Today, KR Tours is a friendly team of guides who genuinely enjoy what we do. We love sharing Liverpool’s history, music, culture and humour while helping visitors feel at home in the city. For us, that’s what a boss experience is all about.

As the project grew, I felt the name should reflect what it had become. KR Liverpool Tours was no longer only about me, but about a whole team. We therefore removed my initials and became Liverpool Tours.

Our motto is “A Boss Experience.” In Liverpool, boss means great or excellent. For us, it means offering a friendly, enjoyable and authentic experience that helps visitors connect with the city.

Our current team is made up of Iván, María, Sac, Rob, Helen, Doug, Terry, Vincent, Ian, Heidi, Lucy and me. We’re also very grateful to the guides who have been part of our team over the years: Fuen, James, Nuria, Beatriz, Matt, Angélica, Lorea, Jesús, Luke and Marta; and we look back fondly on the time we worked together. We’re always happy to welcome new guides who would like to join us under the multicoloured umbrella and become part of the team.

On our tours, you can discover Liverpool’s history, the Beatles, football, architecture and local culture. We also want you to get a feel for everyday life in the city, its people, humour and even a few words in Scouse, the local dialect.

If you’re visiting Liverpool, we would love to welcome you on one of our tours and share a boss experience with you.

Very good tour of Liverpool with Doug. A lot of information given, some tidbits and funny stories. Majority of the tour around the story of the actual city as well as The Beatles, which is understandable as they are integrant part of the history of this magnificent city. Doug was a good guide making sure everyone stayed together as well as maintaining an adequate pace throughout the walk. Highly recommend it!
